Comcast today announced the expansion of its fast, reliable fiber-rich network to more than 12,000 additional homes and businesses in Luzerne County in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Construction is ongoing in Conyngham, Hunlock, Newport, Plymouth, and Union Townships as well as Shickshinny Borough and will kick off in Briar Creek and Salem Townships, as well as Berwick, Briar Creek, and Nescopeck Boroughs later this year. Once complete, this expansion will deliver the full suite of Xfinity residential and Comcast Business products as well as Comcast’s Internet Essentials program that provides low-cost, high-speed broadband for income constrained households.

“We are committed to investing in and expanding our network across Pennsylvania to ensure residents have the fast, reliable Internet and connectivity necessary to succeed,” said Ricky Frazier Jr., Senior Vice President for Comcast’s Keystone Region, which is based in Pennsylvania. “We are proud to provide customers in Luzerne County with fast, reliable services that are built to meet their needs today and into the future.”

Residents can visit Xfinity.com and businesses can visit ComcastBusiness.com to see if their address is currently eligible for service. As construction to expand the network continues, residents and businesses can also visit Xfinity.com/MyTown and enter their addresses to get additional details on services and when they will be available. Additionally, there is an option to visit their local Xfinity store at 1150 Highway 315, Suite A, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.

“We are excited to welcome Comcast into more parts of Luzerne County and offer greater access to high-speed Internet and advanced broadband services,” said Jordan Madl, Mayor of Shickshinny Borough. “Now more than ever our communities rely on these critical services in their daily lives and this investment from Comcast will help connect residents while also offering the latest technology solutions to improve overall quality of life.”

This expansion is part of Comcast’s latest investments in Pennsylvania. The company previously completed network extensions across Luzerne County including Pringle and Courtdale and Larksville. Over the last several years, Comcast expanded its Xfinity network to more than 315,000 additional homes and businesses across the Commonwealth. Powered by Xfinity

Comcast’s network and Internet experience are powering homes today and into the future.

  • Ultimate Capacity: Xfinity customers connect more than 1 billion devices across the company’s network annually. With the next-generation Xfinity gateways we deliver the most advanced WiFi technology carrying three times more bandwidth to power streaming, gaming, videoconferencing, and more, simultaneously.
  • Fastest Internet: More than a third of Xfinity Internet customers subscribe to gigabit speed products. Recently Comcast connected the first customers in the world to a DOCSIS 4.0 connection, delivering symmetrical gig speeds over existing connections in customers’ homes with plans to continue to rollout these speeds across the country over the coming years.
  • Unprecedented Coverage: The latest Xfinity Gateway provides a more reliable connection throughout the home. Customers can get wall-to-wall WiFi coverage with a powerful WiFi Boost Pod that extends coverage to hard-to-reach areas of the home.
  • Most Reliable Connection: Comcast is scaling the nation’s largest and most reliable network that passes 62 million homes and business and counting. The company launched Storm-Ready WiFi, a new device that comes powered with cellular and battery backup to help keep customers connected even when the power goes out.
  • Ultra-Low Latency: The Xfinity network and the latest Xfinity Gateway are a powerful combination that deliver ultra-low latency for those moments when response times matter most like video games, a fast-growing category with Xfinity households averaging more than one gaming console per home.

Comcast serves more than 40 municipalities in Luzerne County and has two Lift Zones including the Greater Pittston YMCA located at 10 North Main Street, Pittston, PA 18640, and Lehman Sanctuary at 261 Jackson Road, Shavertown, PA 18708. In total, the company has 187 Lift Zones in Pennsylvania that provide free WiFi service to empower community centers to promote digital learning. Lift Zones are part of Project UP, Comcast’s $1 billion commitment to advance digital equity through programs and community partnerships that connect people to the Internet, advance economic mobility, and open doors for the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, storytellers, and creators.
