Barn Owl Livestream Takes Flight at Lehman Sanctuary, Powered by Comcast

Lehman Sanctuary in Luzerne County has launched two 24/7 livestream cameras, offering a rare, real-time look into the lives of Barn Owls — and a few surprise guests.
Classrooms and wildlife lovers across Northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA) can now connect with nature like never before thanks to the Lift Zone program from Comcast, which delivers free, high-speed WiFi access in community spaces, ensuring students and families have the connectivity they need outside their homes.
Watch Wildlife Live
Streaming live from the sanctuary, the cameras capture the daily drama unfolding in the nesting boxes. While Barn Owls will ultimately be the stars, tenants have included European Starlings and even flying squirrels. Will the owls return this summer? Tune in and see.
Since becoming a Comcast Lift Zone in 2021, Lehman Sanctuary has grown into an eco-education hub.
“Establishing our meadow teaching habitat and field station as Comcast Lift Zones in 2021 completely transformed the educational and technological opportunities we can provide our community,” said Chris Miller, Founder and President of the Sanctuary. “I’m thrilled our 24/7 Barn Owl cameras are the latest way we’ll be bringing nature into the classroom.”
The Lift Zone also powers the Sanctuary’s BirdWeather feed, which identifies bird species by sound — adding another layer to the learning experience.
A Broader Mission
Comcast Lift Zones are part of Project UP, Comcast’s $1 billion initiative to connect people to the internet, provide digital opportunity, and build a future of unlimited possibilities.
“Our Lift Zone at Lehman Sanctuary blends nature and technology beautifully,” said Kevin Broadhurst, Vice President of Government and External Affairs for Comcast’s Keystone Region. “Providing the Lehman Sanctuary with free, high-speed WiFi is a great representation of Comcast’s commitment to Northeastern Pennsylvania – an area where we are currently expanding our state-of-the-art network to reach even more individuals and businesses.”
Expanding Connectivity Across NEPA
The launch of the Barn Owl cameras builds on Comcast’s recent investments in NEPA. Network expansions in Lackawanna, Luzerne and Columbia Counties, Jermyn and Mayfield Boroughs, and the City of Wilkes-Barre have recently brought the power of Comcast’s connectivity to more people.
Plus, in Carbon, Schuylkill and additional parts of Luzerne County an ongoing expansion will ultimately connect 6,900 more homes and businesses to Xfinity and Comcast Business services for the first time.
