Comcast today announced it started construction to expand its Xfinity network to nearly 400 additional homes and businesses in South Heidelberg Township in Berks County. Residents in these areas will have access to Comcast’s full suite of services, including Xfinity residential broadband speeds up to 2 gigabits per second (Gbps) and Comcast Business speeds up to 100 Gbps. Construction is expected to be complete in October, with the first residents connecting to the Xfinity network this month. In addition to this network extension, Comcast is continuing to build in other parts of Berks County including Amity, Birdsboro, and Exeter and Saint Lawrence.

“We’re proud to extend our network throughout more parts of South Heidelberg Township to connect additional residents and businesses to the Xfinity network,” said Ricky Frazier Jr., Senior Vice President for Comcast’s Keystone Region, which is based in Pennsylvania. “We know connectivity is important and are excited to bring fast, reliable Internet service to more local communities in Berks County.”

The full suite of Xfinity residential and Comcast Business services will be available in South Heidelberg Township including NOW, a portfolio of prepaid products, StreamSaver, a streaming bundle of Peacock, Netflix, and Apple TV+, Xfinity Internet, and Xfinity Mobile, as well as Comcast Business Internet, and Mobile.

Residents can visit Xfinity.com and businesses can visit ComcastBusiness.com to see if their address is eligible for service or to get additional details on services and when they will be available. Additionally, they can visit their nearby Xfinity store located at 2777 Papermill Road, Wyomissing, PA 19610 for support.

This project is part of Comcast’s latest investments in Pennsylvania. Comcast was also awarded more than $61 million by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, through its Broadband Infrastructure Program, this year to bring its residential and commercial services to more parts of 13 counties. Powered by Xfinity

Comcast’s network and Internet experience are powering homes today and into the future.

  • Ultimate Capacity: Xfinity customers connect more than 1 billion devices across the company’s network annually. With the next-generation Xfinity gateways, we deliver the most advanced WiFi technology carrying three times more bandwidth to power streaming, gaming, videoconferencing, and more, simultaneously.
  • Fastest Internet: Nearly a third of Xfinity Internet customers subscribe to gigabit speed products. Recently Comcast connected the first customers in the world to a DOCSIS 4.0 connection, delivering symmetrical gig speeds over existing connections in customers’ homes with plans to continue to rollout these speeds across the country over the coming years.
  • Unprecedented Coverage: The latest Xfinity Gateway provides a more reliable connection throughout the home. Customers can get wall-to-wall WiFi coverage with a powerful WiFi Boost Pod that extends coverage to hard-to-reach areas of the home.
  • Most Reliable Connection: Comcast is scaling the nation’s largest and most reliable network that passes 62 million homes and businesses and counting. The company launched Storm-Ready WiFi, a new device that comes powered with cellular and battery backup to help keep customers connected even when the power goes out.
  • Ultra-Low Latency: The Xfinity network and the latest Xfinity Gateway are a powerful combination that deliver ultra-low latency for those moments when response times matter most like video games, a fast-growing category with Xfinity households averaging more than one gaming console per home.

Comcast serves more than 50 municipalities in Berks County and has also installed 15 Lift Zones, providing free WiFi service to help these community centers promote digital learning. Lift Zones, which provide Internet access on-the-go, complement our Internet Essentials program that provides in-home broadband connectivity. Lift Zones help students, veterans, and anyone who, for a variety of reasons (including homelessness, or housing insecurity issues), need somewhere to go during the day to connect to the Internet. Lift Zones are part of Project UP, Comcast’s comprehensive $1 billion commitment to help build a future of unlimited possibilities and the continuation of the company’s long history of giving back to communities where it provides service and where its employees live and work.
