Comcast creates incredible technology and entertainment that connects millions of people to the moments that matter most. We’re bringing those moments to more customers by expanding our network into new service areas, powering future growth. This incredible undertaking is made possible through the daily efforts of dedicated teams in the Keystone Region who are working to bring the Xfinity network to more of our residential and commercial neighbors in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West, Virginia, and Maryland.

Innovation is at the core of what we do – powering our fiber-rich network. We are extending it deeper into neighborhoods and closer to homes. We’re driving the industry with our major technology partners to redefine the technologies that you use to enjoy entertainment, connect and communicate now and into the future.

What to Expect

Partnership

Comcast works closely with towns, cities, counties and all levels of local government to ensure we have the appropriate permitting as well as sharing construction updates, including specific street locations, so everyone is informed of local network extension activities.

Notification

Construction has many moving parts, and we keep local residents and businesses informed of our activity in various ways. For example, if Comcast needs to access the utility easement on a resident’s property, we will provide a notification before construction begins that includes when we will need to access the utility easement, what to expect during construction and how to protect property and pets. Residents and businesses can visit Xfinity.com/MyTown and enter their address for additional details on construction timing and upcoming service availability.

Work Quickly and Safely

Comcast remains committed to timeliness and safety during all construction projects. As part of that, we maintain Commercial General Liability Insurance to cover the construction and operation of our cable and broadband systems as required by franchise agreements. This policy covers work performed by Comcast employees and business partners.

Length of construction on each project differs based on proximity to established Comcast service areas, topography, and the timing of agreements with local municipalities, among other factors. We are committed to completing the work as efficiently as possible, while prioritizing safety and quality and disrupting local neighborhoods as little as possible.

Mark Utilities

State law requires the marking of lines before digging can occur in public utility easements. You will notice different color markings and flags that will pop-up in your community. Please don’t remove the markings; doing so may delay construction or pose a safety risk to our crews and the community as each represents a different aspect of the construction process.

Fiber Installation and Restoration

Our local teams take the utmost care and respect for the communities we serve and expand into. We use state-of-the-art equipment to install fiber and coax lines with the least amount of disruption. Yes, construction can be messy, and it can take time. Our teams are committed to making sure construction areas are restored to at least as good of a condition as we found it. Our teams are ready to respond to your feedback.

Connect to the Xfinity Network

FAQ

What are public utility easements?

Utility easements are one of the most common types of easements for private property, which generally allow public utility companies access to the property for the purpose of installing, repairing and maintaining utility equipment. These include: overhead electric, telephone and television lines, underground electric, water, sewer, telephone, and cable lines. They exist because it’s significantly more efficient for utility companies to run lines in straight lines through neighborhoods rather than around individual parcels of land.

What can I do during the construction process?

  • Watch for the notifications, which can be mailers, door hangers or phone calls.
  • Keep your pets in your house. If access is needed to your backyard, please make sure your pets are safe and secure during the time period provided by Comcast.
  • Comcast is building a new, state of the art network across these communities to bring Xfinity and Comcast Business services to even more residents. Comcast and our business partners are working to complete this work as quickly and safely as possible and we appreciate your patience during this process.
  • Be aware of construction workers. All construction workers and people placing door hanger messages will be wearing a safety vest and a badge identifying themselves as a Comcast employee or an authorized Comcast contractor.

What does a construction site look like?

The below image provides a high-level overview of what a typical construction site looks like from a bird’s eye view.

Why is there a telecom pedestal (green box) in my yard?

To provide Xfinity and Comcast Business service in your community, our team needs to place above ground connection points that link to underground fiber lines. These connection points are called pedestals or peds, which are generally light green plastic housing that encloses and secures the network connections.

Peds serve specific network engineering needs, and their above ground design and placement provides a more secure connection space while avoiding service impacting damage from water and ice. Above ground peds are also much easier and faster to service in the event of a network issue or outage.

To ensure the highest quality connection, peds need to maintain a relatively close distance to the associated home or business. The combination of these factors in addition to staying in the public right of way or utility easements creates some critical limitations on where peds can be placed.

Our business partners work in collaboration with Comcast to minimize the number of pedestals in each neighborhood and place them in the least obtrusive locations.

What does the restoration process look like?

Once work is complete in an area, restoration work will begin to make the area look like it did before or better. In some instances, weather or seasonal changes may affect the ability to fully restore the location at that time. We will complete the work to the best of our ability and if there is a seasonal impact, we will return to complete the work at a later date. You will be kept updated throughout this process.
