Comcast’s Investments in York: Powering Connectivity and Community
Comcast’s recent investments in York, Pennsylvania, go far beyond providing fast, reliable Xfinity and Comcast Business services. These efforts represent a deeper commitment to the community, creating jobs, enhancing accessibility to our services with convenient retail locations and driving digital equity through digital skills training and workforce development initiatives.
Extending Convenience and Access
In November, we opened a second Xfinity Store in York County. This new 3,000-square-foot location in West York complements our Xfinity Store in East York, giving residents and businesses on each side of the city easy access to expert guidance, connectivity, and entertainment solutions. Our team of local experts are available to ensure customers find the best products and services tailored to their needs.
Advancing Digital Equity Through Project UP
When Comcast partners with a community, we also bring our commitment to further digital equity locally by developing workforce skills, providing access to educational resources and creating opportunities that fuel a thriving neighborhood. This is all possible through Project UP, the company’s $1 billion initiative to advance digital equity and help build a future of unlimited possibilities. Through this program, Comcast recently awarded the City of York a $75,000 Talent for Tomorrow: Digital Equity Challenge grant, a prestigious recognition in partnership with the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM).
York was one of only 10 cities selected nationwide by the Talent for Tomorrow: Digital Equity Challenge for its leadership and commitment to expanding digital programs to help close the skills gap. This grant, in partnership with South Central Pennsylvania Works (SCPa Works), helps support a cutting-edge reentry program for justice-impacted individuals. The program leverages virtual reality technology to provide career exploration and digital literacy training for trade occupations, such as plumbing and mechanics. Comcast was proud to join Mayor Michael Helfrich, County Commissioner Doug Hoke and other community leaders at York City Hall for a demonstration of the technology and program and the impact it will have on the community.
“I frequently call York the city of second chances,” said Mayor Michael Helfrich. “Digital literacy and VR career exploration will do so much to put those impacted by the criminal justice system on a better footing for the future. We are thankful to Comcast and the U.S. Conference of Mayors for their support, and we are fortunate to be able to count on Comcast’s state-of-the-art broadband connectivity that allows our businesses and residents to fully participate in today’s digital economy.”
Comcast is also a proud partner of the York County Economic Alliance (YCEA) and recently sponsored YCEA and Downtown Inc’s 2024 Changemakers Award. As a presenting sponsor, our team celebrated and recognized the award winners for making positive change in the York Community.
Expanding Connectivity in York County
In 2024, Comcast was selected by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to expand its network across 158 municipalities, including many in York County. This initiative will connect more residents and businesses to high-speed Internet, ensuring access to the tools necessary for growth and success.
“At Comcast, we support the communities we serve at a hyperlocal level,” said Ricky Frazier Jr., Senior Vice President of Comcast in the Keystone Region. “We live and work in the same neighborhoods as our local customers, so we see firsthand the transformational impact of reliable high-speed Internet and access to professional development programming in creating brighter futures.”
Looking Ahead
Comcast’s investments in York are just the beginning. From bolstering access to high-speed Internet, Comcast remains committed to driving progress and bringing connectivity and innovation to York in 2025 and well into the future.
