PITTSBURGH, PA – April 17, 2018 – Comcast today announced that it is launching a new internet service that will deliver speeds up to 1 Gigabit-per-second (Gbps) deeper into residential and business customers in Central Pennsylvania. These speeds will be among the fastest and most widely available and include access to the nation’s largest Wi-Fi network of more than 19 million hotspots.
These speeds were introduced last year in Harrisburg, Lebanon, Hershey, State College and Carlisle.
- In Lancaster County, this speed was launched in August 2017 in Lancaster City, Lancaster Township, Millersville Borough, Manheim Township, East Petersburg, East Lampeter, West Lampeter, Conestoga Township, Upper Leacock Township, West Earl Township, East Earl Township, Earl Township, New Holland Borough and Caernarvon Township. It has now launched in the Elizabethtown, Mountville and Quarryville areas, including the boroughs of Marietta, Elizabethtown, Mount Joy, Mountville, Columbia, Wrightsville, Strasberg, Quarryville and Christiana and the townships of West Hempfield, East Hempfield, East Donegal, Mount Joy, West Donegal, Rapho, Conoy, Manor, Pequea, Hellam, Willow Valley, Strasburg, Conestoga, Providence, Martic, Drumore, East Drumore, Fulton, Little Britain, Eden, Salisbury, Paradise, Sadsbury and Bart.
- In Berks County, this speed is available in the following areas: city of Reading; boroughs of West Reading, Mount Penn, Wernersville, Laureldale, Wyomissing, Kenhorst, Mohnton, Shillington, Sinking Spring, West Lawn, Womelsdorf, Robesonia, Strausstown and Bernville; and townships of Alsace, Lower Alsace, Muhlenberg, Exeter, Oley, Ruscombmanor, Cumru, Spring, South Heidelberg, Lower Heidelberg, North Heidelberg, Brecknock, Heidelberg, Marion, Bethel, Tulpehocken, Upper Tulpehocken, Jefferson and Penn.
- In Franklin County, This speed is available in the boroughs of Chambersburg and Shippensburg and the townships of Greene, Hamilton, Letterkenney, Shippensburg and Southampton (both Franklin County and Cumberland County).
Comcast’s new 1 Gigabit Internet service uses DOCSIS 3.1 technology that makes it possible to deliver ultra-fast speeds over the existing communications lines that are already in most homes and neighborhoods. To enjoy the service, all customers need to do is install a new DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem.
