More than 4,800 now available throughout the Keystone Region
Comcast today announced it has activated 32 Xfinity WiFi outdoor hotspots in Huntingdon County, part of an ongoing expansion of a WiFi network in its Keystone Region that includes more than 4,800 hotspots providing free access points that keep Comcast customers connected on the go.
The largest WiFi provider in the state, Comcast is expected to reach 5,200 hotspots by year’s end in the Keystone Region, which comprises western, central and northeastern Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, northern West Virginia and the Maryland panhandle.
These outdoor hotspots have been located near shopping and dining destinations, government offices, auto repair businesses, hair salons and other venues in Huntingdon County where customers go on a regular basis. They are part of Comcast’s 18 million existing hotspots across the nation, and most Xfinity Internet customers can access them at no additional cost.
Among the 32 outdoor hotspots Comcast provides in the county are several in Huntingdon near the Blair House Apartments and the Huntingdon County Library on Penn Street and near restaurants, pharmacies, auto repair businesses and veterinary services along William Penn Highway.
In Mt. Union, hotspots can be found along Drake Street near Mt. Union High School; along North Division Street near restaurants and the Sons of Italy; along North Jefferson Street near auto repair services; along South Jefferson Street near retail shopping and the post office; along William Penn Highway near retail shopping and restaurants; and near a convenience store on West Water Street.
“As we continue to invest in our WiFi network, we are bringing residents in Huntingdon County new levels of connectivity and convenience,” said Christine Whitaker, senior vice president of Comcast’s Keystone Region.
Most Xfinity Internet customers can access Xfinity WiFi hotspots by selecting “xfinitywifi” from the list of available networks on their laptops or mobile devices and entering their Comcast username and password. The Xfinity WiFi App, available for download on both iOS and Android devices, makes it easy to locate business and outdoor hotspots, or customers can visit the hotspot finder map online at xfinity.com/wifi.
After signing in for the first time, customers will automatically connect to any Xfinity WiFi hotspot in the future, allowing them to save on wireless data plans and easily take advantage of access points available across the country, including popular vacation destinations along the East Coast. Non-customers can use the hotspots free up to two hours each month.
Comcast’s Xfinity Wi-Fi network ensures customers have the fastest available online experience in their home, at work and in popular outdoor areas. According to Cisco, 88 percent of all U.S. data traffic on mobile and portable devices will travel over Wi-Fi by 2018.
