More than 4,500 now available throughout the Keystone Region, 17 million nationwide
Comcast today announced it has launched 39 Xfinity WiFi outdoor hotspots in the Chambersburg area, part of the ongoing expansion of a WiFi network in its Keystone Region that now includes more than 4,500 hotspots providing free access points that keep Comcast customers connected on the go.
These outdoor hotspots have been located near shopping and dining destinations, auto repair businesses, hair salons and other Chambersburg venues where customers go on a regular basis. These are among Comcast’s 17 million existing residential and business hotspots across the nation, and most Xfinity Internet customers can access them at no additional cost.
Comcast has built the largest WiFi network in the country and is the largest WiFi provider in the state. The Keystone Region comprises western, central and northeastern Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, northern West Virginia and the Maryland panhandle.
Available Chambersburg access points include 10 locations along Lincoln Way East and five along Lincoln Way West; multiple locations along South Main Street, West Loudon Street, West King Street, Wayne Avenue and Cedar Street, including Southgate Shopping Center; and locations on East and West Catherine Streets, East and West Queen Streets, Hood Street, South Franklin Street, North 2nd Street, Philadelphia Avenue and Walker Road.
“As we continue to invest in our WiFi network, we are bringing residents in the Chambersburg area new levels of connectivity and convenience,” said Christine Whitaker, senior vice president of Comcast’s Keystone Region.
Most Xfinity Internet customers can access Xfinity WiFi hotspots by selecting “xfinitywifi” from the list of available networks on their laptops or mobile devices and entering their Comcast email and password. The Xfinity WiFi App, available for download on both iOS and Android devices, makes it easy to locate business and outdoor hotspots, or customers can visit the hotspot finder map online at www.xfinity.com/wifi.
After signing in for the first time, customers will automatically connect to any Xfinity WiFi hotspot in the future, allowing them to save on wireless data plans and easily take advantage of access points available across the country, including popular vacation destinations along the East Coast. All Xfinity Mobile customers also connect automatically to these hotspots.
Comcast’s Xfinity Wi-Fi network ensures customers have the fastest available online experience in their home, at work and in popular outdoor areas. According to Cisco, 88 percent of all U.S. data traffic on mobile and portable devices will travel over Wi-Fi by 2018.
