On Saturday, April 22, thousands of employees, family and friends volunteered to improve their local communities and make a lasting impact at nearly 20 sites across the Central PA region as part of the 16th annual Comcast Cares Day.
Comcast NBCUniversal’s commitment to volunteerism this year saw projects at Bell Socialization Services’ Bed Race, Go Green in the City and ARC of York County’s Camp Pennwood in York County; Detwiler Field in Huntingdon; Shining Stars Therapeutic Riding in Gettysburg; Together We Rise, St. David’s Lutheran Church in Hanover; Loyalsock Township Little League in Williamsport; Spanish American Civic Association in Lancaster; Penns Valley Little League Field in Centre Hall; Milesburg Little League Field in Bellefonte; Healey Park in Duryea; St. Francis Commons Veterans Center in Scranton; Antrim Township Community Park in Greencastle; Capital Area Therapeutic Riding in Grantville; Reservoir Park in Harrisburg; Northeast Park and Playground in Lebanon; Mill Hall Community Park and Pool in Mill Hall; and New Journey Community Center in Reading.
State College employees also helped with the Special Olympics Beaver Stadium Run the following day. As Keystone Region marketing manager Heather Stephens told the Centre Daily Times, “We help with community work, rally together and make donations. It’s just a part of our mission.”
This year, the Company expected more than 100,000 volunteers to participate in approximately 900 projects across the country and around the world. To date, volunteers have contributed nearly 5 million volunteer hours at 7,700 projects since Comcast Cares Day began in 2001.
“It’s truly amazing what’s possible when so many volunteers donate their time to make a difference in the lives of others,” said Christine Whitaker, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s Keystone Region. “I’m inspired by the community’s response to Comcast Cares Day, and am so thankful for the participants who help to make this effort a success.”
The Comcast Foundation will also provide grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of everyone who volunteered on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast’s community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year. To date, the Comcast Foundation has awarded more than $20 million in grants to local non-profit organizations who have served as partners on Comcast Cares Day.
