Comcast Awarded Centro Hispano Daniel Torres’ Amigo Award

Each year, Centro Hispano Daniel Torres recognizes an institution, organization or individual who makes a positive impact at the center and in Reading’s Latino community with its Amigo Award.  Comcast was selected as the 2018 Amigo Award winner and honored at the Amigo Award Gala on June 15.  In addition to the award ceremony, the dinner featured keynote speaker Janet Murguia, president and CEO of UnidosUS.  Comcasters from the Unidos Employee Resource Group joined Comcast’s External Affairs team in accepting the award.

Centro Hispano Daniel Torres’ mission is to support the acculturation of the local Latino population through collaborative initiatives with core programs that include a senior center, social services referrals, college scholarships and guidance for high school students, peer-to-peer training for parents, and after-school mentoring.  In addition, Centro Hispano recently supported more than 425 families displaced from Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.

Comcast and Centro Hispano have worked together for more than 10 years to promote Internet Essentials, Comcast’s low-cost broadband internet service for families who qualify. The Comcast Foundation has supported their college enrichment program for Latino youth, as well as their new digital computer center, awarding $70,000 in grants over the last five years.
