New Comcast Newsmakers Platform Debuts

Filmed on location in January, at the Underground Railroad Museum in Flushing, Ohio, Comcast Newsmakers turned a spotlight on this Ohio Valley gem and its exhibits that inform visitors about slavery and the Underground Railroad in Ohio. Using community-based filming locations is just part of the 2018 refresh of Comcast Newsmakers.

In addition, Newmakers has evolved to a short-form news platform that more deeply explores the unique issues and opportunities faced by the communities Comcast serves. For example, the Flushing, Ohio shoot featured a slate of experts discussing the region’s pressing social and economic issues.

Guests included: Curator of the Underground Railroad Museum, Dr. John Mattox; Dr. Darrell W. Cummings, Director, North Wheeling Youth Center who talked about Booker T. Washington, Carter Woodson, George Carver, and Martin Luther King, Jr.; Andrew Cogar, Assistant United States Attorney, who spoke about the signs of, and laws about, human trafficking as well as the specifics on human trafficking in West Virginia.
